Pilates at Training Partners

PI-LA-TES – (pəˈläˌdēz/) “a system of exercises using special apparatus, designed to improve physical strength, flexibility, posture, and enhance mental awareness.”

Pilates is beneficial for people of all ages and fitness levels. It’s a safe system of mind-body exercise using a floor mat or a variety of equipment and evolved from the principles of Joseph Pilates. Pilates conditions the body from head to toe with a no-to-low impact approach and complements strength workouts and sports/activities (golf, tennis, cycling, running, etc.) It teaches body awareness, good posture and easy, graceful movement. Patience and practice are required but results will follow.

Beware of Pilates programs that promise dramatic weight loss or overnight transformations. That’s not what pure Pilates is about. However, with time and dedication a consistent Pilates practice will:

• Improve posture, flexibility/mobility and balance
• Tone and build long, lean muscles without bulk
• Challenge deep abdominal muscles to support the core
• Can help alleviate back pain
• Restore postural alignment
• Create a stronger, more flexible spine
• Promote recovery from strain or injury
• Offer relief from back pain and joint strength

Private sessions on the equipment are available and are tailored to your specific needs. Sessions are an hour or half hour in length.

Group mat classes are also available and are performed in a group setting and might include poles, circles, bands, rollers or no equipment at all. In order to maximize supervision and individual participation class sizes are small and contained. All classes are one hour in length. I became a member of Training Partners at the recommendation of my trusted physical therapist in 2010. Pilates and TRX, individually supervised by Kelly Richards, have decreased my back pain dramatically by improving my core strength. Improving strength and fitness are THE way to take charge of your health.

Pilates Trainer and Group Instructor

I was born and raised in Asheville and growing up spent most of my time exploring the mountains around me. While in college at Appalachian State University, I stumbled across their Pilates program and was instantly hooked. At ASU, I completed a 600+ hour Comprehensive Classical Pilates instructor Certification and immediately began teaching in Asheville in 2007. I went on to complete the Fusion Pilates Pre/Post Natal training.

In 2011 I became a Certified Personal Trainer thru the American Council on Exercise (ACE) and in 2012 a certified TRX Group Training Instructor. Always looking to expand my knowledge and understanding of healthy living, I recently completed the Precision Nutrition Level 1 Certification for Sports and Exercise Nutrition.

I admit I was a bit uncomfortable on the first day I attended my Pilates class. My apprehension quickly left when I meet Kelly and was warmly greeted by the others class members. They are a group of interesting and fun loving women who enjoy the class and each other’s company.

I enjoy classes twice a week and workout with Kelly twice a week. I have been a member since May and I feel stronger than I have in years and I am having alot of fun. This is the longest I have committed to a work out program and I intend to continue – I’m enjoying the the results.
